Pan Deck. Not for Cooking |
|
A pan deck is not a tool used for cooking your Saturday morning flapjacks. It is a steel deck used in the building industry. A building constructed with steel beams can use a pan deck. A pan deck is welded directly to the floor beams of a building. Once the pan deck is anchored and secured, a three inch layer of concrete is poured over this deck to form the building floor. The pan deck can take on the shape of a pan or resemble more of a corrugated shape as shown in the detail below. The benefit of a pan deck is the operation is conducted with no forms. The concrete is poured directly onto the deck, with no forms to be removed after the concrete cures.
A slip-form method uses wood forms to support the floor during the concrete pour is another method of pouring a building floor. The slip-form method goes through the agony of constantly removing and slipping the forms into place for another pour. A pan deck will save time and money.
